We stock and install Mighty Mule-compatible welding and fabrication parts across Long Beach, with most brackets, gate frame reinforcements, and weld-on hinge replacements running $240 – $520 installed depending on the part and your gate’s metal condition. Same-day replacement is available for most common failure points because we keep raw steel stock, weld-on brackets, and Mighty Mule-specific mounting hardware on our trucks. The way owners usually find us: the gate starts sagging, the opener arm bracket tears loose from the gate frame, or a hinge welds cracks and the gate drags against the driveway. That’s when you need someone who can weld, not just swap a circuit board.
We’re an independent service provider, not a Mighty Mule factory shop, and we’re factory-trained on Mighty Mule equipment alongside LiftMaster, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing. Cole Rafferty has spent more than two decades working gates that other techs won’t touch because the fix involves a welder and a grinder, not just a socket set. Tell me exactly what the gate is doing, or not doing, and I’ll tell you exactly what it needs.
Which Mighty Mule Models This Applies To
Mighty Mule’s lineup splits into two families that matter for fabrication work: the FM series (FM200, FM350, FM500, FM502) and the MM series (MM260, MM360, MM371, MM571, MM572). The FM series typically drives single swing gates up to 16 feet and 550 pounds, while the MM series handles dual swing gates up to 18 feet and heavier fabricated steel gates. The fabrication failure points differ by series, so identifying your model matters before we start cutting steel.
The fastest way to identify what you have: look for the model sticker on the underside of the opener arm housing or on the control board cover. If the sticker is gone, measure the gate leaf. Single gates under 14 feet with an arm-style opener are almost always FM series. Anything dual-swing or over 16 feet is MM territory. The compatibility gotcha most owners miss: FM-series mounting brackets are thinner gauge than MM-series brackets, and using an FM bracket on a heavy fabricated steel gate is how you get a torn bracket in under two years. We fabricate reinforcement plates rather than just replacing the bracket when the gate itself is heavy.
On the OEM-versus-aftermarket question for Mighty Mule specifically: the factory weld-on brackets are zinc-plated and perfectly fine for a stock aluminum gate. But on a custom steel gate, or any gate within 20 percent of the opener’s weight limit, we fabricate thicker brackets in-house. Aftermarket universal brackets create more problems than they solve on Mighty Mule because the pivot geometry is specific to each model’s arm travel. We stock both OEM Mighty Mule brackets and the steel stock to build stronger ones when the gate demands it.

Signs Your Mighty Mule Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags at the latch end and scrapes the driveway. This is almost always a failed weld at the hinge or a hinge post that’s shifted. Mighty Mule openers will fight a sagging gate until the motor burns out, so the sag gets expensive fast if ignored.
- The opener arm bracket has pulled away from the gate frame. You’ll see a gap between the bracket and the gate or hear a clunk when the opener starts its cycle. On heavy gates, the factory bracket tears loose at the weld points and the arm starts swinging instead of pushing.
- The gate makes a sharp metal-on-metal squeal during travel. That’s a hinge pin binding, often because a weld cracked and the hinge plates are no longer aligned. Grease buys you a week; a re-weld fixes it for years.
- You can see daylight through a crack in the gate frame. Rust at a weld joint is the usual culprit, especially on coastal Long Beach properties where salt air accelerates corrosion. The crack grows every cycle until the frame separates.
- The opener runs but the gate only moves a few inches before stopping. The motor is hitting its obstruction limit because a bent or broken weld is adding resistance. The motor is fine; the metalwork is the problem.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
For Long Beach homeowners, expect these installed prices on Mighty Mule-related welding and fabrication:
- Weld-on hinge replacement (single hinge): $180 – $280 installed, including grinding out the old hinge and welding in a new one
- Opener arm bracket replacement with reinforcement plate: $240 – $380 installed, more if we’re fabricating a custom bracket for a heavy gate
- Gate frame crack repair: $200 – $400 depending on crack length and whether we’re adding a steel gusset for strength
- Full hinge set replacement (both hinges): $340 – $520 installed, including realignment so the gate swings true
Your written price includes the part, the labor, the welding consumables, and cleanup. We quote before we cut, not after, so there’s no invoice surprise at the end. Every fabrication job is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a weld fails or a bracket tears within a year, we come back and make it right for free. That’s how we’ve worked since Cole started Warden Gate Repair Long Beach as part of the Threshold Group family in 2008.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely check a few things: tag the model number on your opener arm, measure your gate leaf length, and look for visible cracks or bracket gaps with the gate in the closed position. That’s useful information to have when you call. What you shouldn’t do: fire up a flux-core welder on a gate that weighs several hundred pounds. A bad weld on a hinge or bracket doesn’t fail quietly. It fails when the gate is mid-swing, and a 400-pound gate carries enough force to seriously injure anyone in its path. Welding on galvanized steel also puts off fumes you don’t want to breathe without proper ventilation. This is one repair where the right equipment and the right training matter. Call (562) 512-6788 and we’ll give you an honest read before anyone picks up a grinder.
FAQs
Factory Mighty Mule hinges and brackets typically last 8 – 12 years in Long Beach’s climate, but coastal properties within a mile or two of the water often see rust-related failures in 5 – 7 years because salt air accelerates weld and coating breakdown. Our fabricated steel replacements with zinc primer typically run 15 years or more. Call (562) 512-6788 and we’ll tell you if your hinges are in the normal range or failing early.
Yes, in about half the cases. If the surrounding metal is sound and the break is at the original weld joint, we grind it clean and re-weld with proper penetration. If the metal around the break is rusted thin or cracked, replacing the part with a fabricated upgrade is safer than a patch. Estimates are free, so call (562) 512-6788 and we’ll tell you which path your gate needs.
Most single hinge or bracket replacements run 45 – 90 minutes on site, including grinding, welding, and alignment. Full hinge sets or frame crack repairs with reinforcement plates run 2 – 3 hours. We typically carry everything needed on the truck, so there’s no waiting on parts. Call (562) 512-6788 and we’ll give you a time window before we arrive.
We stock OEM Mighty Mule weld-on brackets for FM and MM series openers, plus the steel stock, plate, and rod to fabricate custom reinforcement brackets for heavier gates. If you’ve got a Mighty Mule part number in hand, we can confirm compatibility before the visit. Call (562) 512-6788 and tell us what you’ve got; we’ll bring the right metal.
