We stock and install welding and fabrication work for Linear gate operators across Long Beach, with most bracket repairs, hinge rebuilds, and frame reinforcements running between $225 and $650 installed. The most common call we get starts the same way: the gate sags toward the latch side, scrapes the driveway, or the operator arm bracket tears loose from the gate frame. You call because the gate still opens, but every cycle sounds worse than the last one – and you’re right to catch it now, because a failed weld on a 400-pound gate doesn’t give you a warning shot. We carry pre-fabricated Linear-compatible brackets, hinge plates, and reinforcement gussets on the truck, and our fabricator can weld most repairs the same day we diagnose them.
Which Linear Models This Applies To
Linear’s residential and light-commercial operators share a common weak point: the physical connection between the operator and the gate itself. We see this on the Linear LDO50, the LD033/LD050 series, the APeX line, and the older Pro Access models still running throughout Long Beach neighborhoods like Bixby Knolls, Los Altos, and Naples. The welding and fabrication work we do almost always falls into three categories: the operator mounting bracket, the gate hinge post plates, or the gate frame itself where the arm attaches. Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: Linear changed the mounting hole pattern on the APeX series arm brackets around 2016. If you order a new bracket based on the operator model number alone, the holes may not line up with your existing gate post. Bring us a photo of the bracket and the operator label, or have us come out – we measure before we order or fabricate anything.
For most homeowners, a quality aftermarket steel bracket is functionally identical to the OEM Linear version, and it typically costs 30-40% less. We don’t push cheaper parts if the OEM part is the better call, but for brackets and hinge plates, aftermarket American-made steel holds up just as well in beach-adjacent salt air. For anything involving the operator arm itself, we stick with OEM Linear parts – the tolerances matter more there.
Styles & brands we work with

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags noticeably at the free end. This is usually a hinge post plate pulling away from the wall or post, or a hinge weld cracking at the gate frame. The gate still latches because the operator is holding it up – but the load is now on the operator arm, not the hinges. That’s what kills operators early.
- The operator arm bracket shifts or wobbles when the gate cycles. Watch the bracket while the gate opens. If you see even a quarter-inch of flex, the mounting bolts are wallowing out their holes or the bracket itself is fatiguing. In Long Beach’s coastal air, we see this on exposed steel brackets within five to seven years of installation.
- You find fresh rust streaks below any welded joint. Rust-colored staining isn’t just surface corrosion – it means water is working into the joint and the weld is actively degrading from the inside out. On gates near the water in Belmont Shore or the Peninsula, this is the single most reliable early warning sign we see.
- The gate scrapes the driveway or drags on the hinge side. That scraping sound is the gate telling you the geometry has shifted. It’s rarely the operator’s fault. It’s sagged hinges, a cracked weld, or a post that’s drifted out of plumb. The operator is the victim here, not the cause.
- The gate makes a popping or creaking sound at the same point in every cycle. A repeating creak is a cracked weld flexing open and closed. Cracks in steel don’t heal – they propagate. This is the one to address this week, not next month. This is something we’d flag immediately on a service call.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Long Beach, expect to pay between $225 and $650 for most Linear-related welding and fabrication repairs, installed. A simple hinge plate replacement or bracket swap runs $225 to $350. A cracked gate frame corner that needs grinding, re-welding, and a reinforcement gusset added typically lands between $380 and $550. Full hinge post replacement, where we cut out the old post and set a new steel post in concrete, runs $500 to $850 depending on access and the size of the gate. You’ll get a line-item written price before any work starts – parts listed separately from labor, so you know exactly what you’re paying for. Every welding and fabrication repair is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the weld fails or the bracket shifts within a year, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s in writing, every time.
DIY or Call Us?
You can absolutely diagnose this one yourself. Watch the gate cycle and look for movement at the hinge plates, the operator bracket, and the frame joints. Take photos and measurements. Send them to us if you want a straight answer before anyone comes out – Cole Rafferty looks at every photo himself and will tell you honestly whether it’s an urgent fix or something that can wait. What we don’t recommend is DIY welding on a gate that’s under tension, carries 300+ pounds, or is connected to an operator that could cycle unexpectedly. A bad weld on a gate looks exactly like a good weld until it fails. If you’re not confident cutting, grinding, and running a clean bead on structural steel, call us at (562) 512-6788 and let us handle it. We’re in your neighborhood regularly – we’ve done years of work along the residential corridors near Bixby Knolls, where older properties tend to have gates and operators that need genuine fabrication work, not just parts swapping.
FAQs
In Long Beach’s salt air and sun exposure, an unpainted or poorly painted steel weld on a gate will typically start showing serious corrosion within four to six years. A properly prepped, welded, primed, and painted repair should last fifteen to twenty years. If you’re within a mile of the ocean, we recommend an annual inspection and touch-up painting as part of your gate maintenance. Call (562) 512-6788 if you want us to take a look at yours.
Most cracked frames can be repaired. We grind out the crack, re-weld the joint, and add a reinforcement gusset plate so the stress doesn’t re-fracture the same spot. Full replacement only makes sense when the frame is so corroded that there’s no sound steel left to weld to. We’ll tell you which one you’re looking at – and we won’t sell you a replacement gate if a repair will hold.
Most single-bracket or hinge plate repairs are done in one visit, usually two to three hours including setup and painting. If we need to fabricate a custom bracket or order an OEM Linear arm component, expect a few days. We’ll tell you the timeline before we start, and the written price won’t change unless you approve a change in scope first.
Yes. Our trucks carry common Linear-compatible brackets, hinge plates, gussets, and hardware, plus OEM Linear operator arm components for the most common models. If your part isn’t on the truck, we can usually have it in hand within two to three business days. Beyond Linear, we also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls operators. Call (562) 512-6788 and tell us your model number – we’ll confirm whether we have your part before we even schedule the visit.
If your gate is sagging, scraping, or making sounds it didn’t make last year, call us at (562) 512-6788. We’re Warden Gate Repair Long Beach – we specialize exclusively in gate repair, electric gate repair, and gate motor repair. We’ll come out, diagnose the problem, and hand you a written price before any torch or grinder comes off the truck. You’ll know exactly who’s walking up your driveway before we arrive: name, photo, and credentials sent ahead of time. That’s our standard.
