We stock and install LiftMaster-compatible welded gate components in Long Beach, with most fabrication jobs running $350 to $1,200 installed depending on the part and metalwork involved. We keep common replacement brackets, hinge plates, and gate frame sections on the truck, so a same-day fix is realistic for many failures. The way owners usually discover this is hard to miss: a gate that sags, scrapes the driveway, or suddenly won’t close because a welded joint cracked or a bracket tore loose from the post.
Welding and fabrication on a LiftMaster system isn’t one part. It’s the metal skeleton the operator pushes and pulls against. When that skeleton gives out, the motor works harder, limit switches drift, and eventually the whole system quits. We see it most on gates that have been in service 10-plus years, especially along the coastal side of Long Beach where salt air accelerates corrosion at the weld points.
Which LiftMaster Models This Applies To
Welding and fabrication work applies to nearly every LiftMaster gate operator we service in Long Beach, because the metal frame, hinge mounts, and bracket points are independent of the motor model. That said, the work breaks down by gate type rather than operator model: sliding gates (common with LiftMaster SL series operators), swing gates (LA400, LA500, and the older LA412), and barrier or cantilever gates used in some Long Beach commercial lots.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha most people miss: your LiftMaster model number tells us which operator you have, but it doesn’t tell us the gate’s metal dimensions. To match a replacement bracket or hinge plate, we need the gate’s weight, the post size, and whether the frame is square tube, round tube, or solid bar. Most fabrication shops won’t ask. We do, because a hinge plate welded for a 300-pound gate will tear out in six months on a 600-pound one.
On the OEM versus aftermarket question: LiftMaster sells replacement brackets and mounting hardware, but for structural welding work, the “part” is fabricated by a skilled welder from raw steel or aluminum stock, not pulled from a LiftMaster box. We prefer welding in replacement sections using tube stock matched to the existing frame gauge. It’s stronger than bolt-on patches, and it avoids the weak point that forms where the patch meets the original metal.
We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with LiftMaster. What we bring is hands-on welding experience with their gate systems and a truck stocked with the common steel profiles and mounting plates those systems use.

Signs Your LiftMaster Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags toward the free end. This points to a cracked weld or a hinge plate that’s pulling away from the post. The operator keeps working, but the gate scrapes the driveway and eventually binds against the latch post.
- You hear a grinding or squealing noise at the hinge or the drive track. That’s metal-on-metal contact caused by misalignment. Once the geometry shifts, the rollers and hinge pivots wear fast.
- The operator trips, reverses, or throws an obstruction error repeatedly. A bent or cracked frame section increases the force needed to move the gate. The LiftMaster control board reads that extra resistance as an obstruction.
- Visible cracks in the welds, especially near the bottom corners of the frame. Long Beach’s damp, salty air rusts welds from the inside out. What starts as a hairline crack becomes a full separation within a season.
- The gate post itself wobbles or shifts when the gate moves. Concrete posts crack and steel posts rust at the base. If the post moves, no bracket or hinge replacement will hold until the post foundation is addressed.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Long Beach, expect these installed price ranges for LiftMaster-related welding and fabrication:
- Hinge plate or bracket re-weld: $150 – $350
- Gate frame section repair (cracked or rusted tube): $350 – $750
- Full gate frame reinforcement or re-fabrication: $750 – $1,200
- Post replacement with new weld-in hinge mounts: $600 – $1,400 depending on post type and concrete work
Every quote is written and given to you before any work starts. The price includes the labor, the steel or aluminum stock, welding consumables, and any on-site grinding or cleanup. If we find something else while we’re in there, we stop and talk to you before adding a dollar. The work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if a weld we made fails within a year, we come back and fix it free.
DIY or Call Us?
Here’s the honest split. You can safely check the obvious things: look for visible cracks in the welds, push on the gate post to see if it moves, and check whether the gate scrapes in one spot. Those observations help us quote the job over the phone.
What you shouldn’t do is attempt the welding yourself unless you’re a trained welder with experience on structural gate frames. Welding on a gate that’s under tension from its own weight is dangerous. A failed weld can drop hundreds of pounds of steel on someone. There’s also a real risk of burning through thin tube stock or warping the frame if heat is applied wrong. And if you’re welding near an operator with a battery backup, you can fry the control board. This is the one repair where we tell even handy owners to call a professional.
Call (562) 512-6788 and tell us what the gate is doing, or not doing, and we’ll tell you exactly what it needs. Cole Rafferty still writes every quote by hand before it goes into the computer, a habit that keeps us honest on the details.
FAQs
A properly welded and painted joint on a steel gate typically lasts 10 to 15 years in Long Beach’s coastal climate, provided the weld is cleaned and coated after it cools. Uncoated welds near salt air can fail in as little as 2 to 3 years. Call (562) 512-6788 to have us inspect your gate and give you an honest lifespan estimate.
Yes, in most cases the repair is stronger than the original if the area is ground back to clean metal and new stock is welded in correctly. Full replacement only makes sense when the frame is rusted through in multiple spots. Call (562) 512-6788 for a free assessment.
Most bracket and hinge re-welds take 1 to 2 hours on site. Frame section repairs take 3 to 4 hours. Full re-fabrication jobs may require the gate to be removed and worked on in our shop, which usually runs 2 to 3 days. Call (562) 512-6788 for a time estimate on your specific gate.
We stock common steel tube profiles, hinge plates, and bracket stock for LiftMaster gate systems, plus we carry parts for Mighty Mule, Ghost Controls, and DoorKing operators as well.
