We stock and install FAAC-compatible welding and fabrication parts across Long Beach, with most hinge brackets, gate frames, and operator mounting plates replaced for $285 to $1,400 installed depending on the part and how much fabrication the job needs. Most repairs are done same day or next day. We are an independent service provider, not affiliated with FAAC, and we’ll match your part to your exact operator series before we quote anything.
Here’s how this usually starts. You pull into the driveway, press the remote, and the gate moves about six inches, then groans and stops. Or it moves all the way, but the whole frame shudders at one point, and you can hear metal rubbing metal. You look at the hinge or the bracket and see a crack line running through it, or the weld bead has broken loose on one side. That is a welding and fabrication failure, and it will not heal itself.
Which FAAC Models This Applies To
FAAC gate systems are all over Long Beach, especially in neighborhoods like Belmont Shore, Naples, and Bixby Knolls where custom steel and wrought-iron driveway gates were popular through the 1980s and 1990s. The welding and fabrication components we handle span four main FAAC families: the 400 Series swing operators, the 412 and 415 articulated arm models, the C720 and C721 sliding gate operators, and the older 740 and 750 hydraulic series that still run on a lot of Long Beach properties.
Here’s a compatibility gotcha most owners learn the hard way. FAAC changed the mounting plate dimensions between hydraulic and newer electromechanical series. A 750-series bracket will not line up with a 400-series operator without field modification, and sometimes a previous installer already drilled extra holes trying to force it. We measure the bolt pattern, not just the model name. If the old plate is too far gone to measure, we pull the FAAC parts diagram from the serial number plate on the operator body.
The OEM versus aftermarket decision depends on the part. For high-stress components like hinge rebuilds and operator mounting plates, we use genuine FAAC or a US-machined steel equivalent that matches the original gauge. For decorative scroll work on gates where FAAC never made the piece to begin with, we fabricate from raw stock. Steel spec matters: a lot of Long Beach gates near the shoreline were originally built with lighter tubing, and the salt air has been eating them for 20 years. We cut back to clean metal before we weld, or the new work fails at the seam.

Signs Your FAAC Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- The gate sags visibly at the free end. This usually means the lower hinge weld is cracking or the hinge pin hole has wallowed out. Every cycle the gate runs off-square and puts more torque on the operator. We see this most on older iron gates in the Naples canals area, where soil movement compounds hinge fatigue.
- You hear a pop or creak mid-travel. That is the sound of a cracked weld flexing under load. The crack opens when the gate passes its heaviest point and closes again at the stop. It will keep growing until the weld separates fully, and then the gate drops onto the operator arm.
- The operator mounting plate shows stress cracks around the bolts. FAAC operators deliver a lot of force through a flat steel plate. Once the plate starts to tear around the mounting bolts, the operator shifts under load and the limit switch timing drifts. We replace and reinforce these plates so the operator sits dead level again.
- Visible rust bleeding from a joint or weld seam. In Long Beach’s coastal air, surface rust is normal, but rust streaking from inside a tube joint means internal corrosion. By the time you see it bleed, the metal wall is thin and welding to it without cutting back to fresh steel is a temporary patch. We cut back and sleeve or replace the section.
- The gate welds are original and the house predates the operator. If your gate was installed before someone added the FAAC opener, there is a good chance the frame was never engineered for motorized cycle loads. The welds that held fine for hand-operated use now cycle hundreds of times a month. Failure is a question of when, not if.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Long Beach, expect to pay $285 to $475 for a single hinge rebuild or bracket replacement, $350 to $700 for an operator mounting plate replacement with reinforcement, and $600 to $1,400 for larger fabrication jobs like re-welding a gate frame section, sleeving a rotted post, or building a new operator platform for a concrete pier. The range comes down to how much steel has to be cut out, how thick the remaining material is, and whether the gate needs to come off its hinges for bench work or can be repaired in place.
Every quote we write includes the part, the labor, and any grinding, priming, and touch-up painting. The price you agree to is the price you pay. We have been in business since 2008 as part of the Threshold Group family, and the 365-Day Done Right Promise applies to this work: if the weld or fabrication fails within a year, we return and make it right at no charge. That is not a marketing line. It is in writing on every service ticket.
DIY or Call Us?
Let’s be straight about what you should not touch yourself. Welding a gate frame while it hangs over your driveway involves either hot work near your property line or lifting the gate onto a bench. A 14-foot steel driveway gate weighs 400 to 600 pounds. If a hinge fails while you are working on it, you are in the path. We carry the clamps, the lifting gear, and the insurance. None of this is worth a trip to the emergency room.
What you can check safely before calling: look at the mounting plate bolts and see if they are loose, listen for where the pop comes from, and take a photo of the crack or rust so we can see it before we arrive. But do not run a bead on it as a test. If the existing parent metal is fatigued, the weld will hold for a few weeks and then the original material rips next to it. That makes the eventual repair more expensive, because now we are cutting out amateur bead along with the failed original joint.
Tell me exactly what the gate is doing, or not doing, and I’ll tell you exactly what it needs. Then we’ll send a written price before any work begins.
FAQs
A properly fabricated and primed steel gate lasts 20 to 30 years in Long Beach before the welds need major attention, but the coastal air shortens that to 10 to 15 years for gates within a few blocks of the water unless they are regularly painted and the joints were sealed at the time of fabrication. Plan to inspect load-bearing welds every few years once your gate passes the 10-year mark.
Roughly 60 percent of the failures we see can be repaired by grinding back to clean steel and re-welding with a gusset or brace added. The rest need section replacement, because the surrounding metal is too thin from corrosion or the original fabrication used undersized tubing. We will tell you which one you have and quote the repair honestly, even when the cheaper fix works.
Most single-part repairs like a hinge rebuild or bracket swap take 2 to 3 hours on site. Larger fabrication jobs that require cutting out sections, sleeving, and repainting may take a full day, and some gates need to travel to the shop for bench work. We will give you a written timeline with the quote before any work starts.
Yes. We carry OEM FAAC mounting plates, hinge kits, and operator brackets for the 400, 412, 415, C720, and C721 series on the truck, along with raw steel stock for custom fabrication. If your specific plate or bracket has to be ordered, we tell you that in the quote, and the install gets scheduled once the part is in hand. We also stock parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls systems.
We handle the full job. That includes grinding out the failed weld, fabricating or installing the replacement component, re-hanging the gate, re-setting the FAAC limit switches, and touch-up painting. You will not need a second contractor to finish what we start.
