FAAC Access Control Installation: The Long Beach Owner’s Guide

We install and replace FAAC access control systems in Long Beach, with most keypad, receiver, and board replacements running $320 to $780 installed depending on your model and what’s failed. If you’ve got a keypad that works when it feels like it, a remote that only opens the gate from 10 feet away, or a control board that clicks but won’t run, we typically diagnose it the same day we arrive and usually have the part on the truck. Most Long Beach owners discover the problem when the gate stops responding to a code that worked yesterday, or when a new tenant, housekeeper, or dog walker can’t get in.

The short version: we’re an independent gate and opener specialist in Long Beach, not a FAAC dealer, but we stock and install FAAC-compatible access control parts on a regular basis. Cole Rafferty leads every job, and the written price comes before any work starts. Call us at (562) 512-6788 if your FAAC keypad, receiver, or board has stopped behaving.

Which FAAC Models This Applies To

FAAC has been building gate operators for decades, and their access control parts vary more than people expect. The keypads, receivers, and control boards that work on a 390 or 402 swing arm operator, for example, are not always interchangeable with the parts on a 740 or 844 sliding gate operator. FAAC changed connector styles and voltage requirements between their series, so a used keypad you picked up for cheap may bolt on and light up, then do nothing at all because it’s wired for a different generation of board.

The fastest way to identify what you need is to open the operator cover and read the model plate, not the sticker on the outer housing. FAAC builds several models into the same housing over the years, and the model plate, typically mounted inside on the chassis or the transformer bracket, gives you the series number and voltage. If you can read the number off the existing keypad or receiver, even better. We match by series and revision, and we’ll ask you for either a photo of the plate or the number off the failed part before we head out.

When it comes to OEM versus aftermarket, our rule for FAAC is simple: on receivers and boards, we install genuine FAAC or a proven equivalent we’ve tested on the same series. On keypads, a quality weather-sealed aftermarket unit can be a better value, especially on an older gate where the factory keypad has been sun-faded for a decade. FAAC parts are well made, but the aftermarket has caught up on the basic digital keypads and the savings can be real. We’ll show you the difference before you commit.

Signs Your FAAC Access Control Installation Is Failing

  • The keypad works only in the morning or only after rain. This is a moisture and temperature expansion issue. The membrane or the solder joints on the keypad’s internal board are failing, and Long Beach’s coastal humidity accelerates it. When the metal inside the keypad warms up and expands, a weak solder point makes contact.
  • Your remote range dropped from 40 feet to “you’re standing next to it.” This is usually the receiver or its antenna, not the remote batteries. FAAC receivers use a small coaxial-style antenna, and after years of coastal salt exposure, the connection at the board is often corroded green when we open it up.
  • The gate opens but won’t close, or closes but won’t open, on a specific code. This is a control board relay problem. The relay that fires the motor in one direction has worn contacts, and after enough cycles, the contact resistance gets high enough that the board stops sending a clean signal.
  • The keypad beeps but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad is talking, but the board isn’t listening. This is often a wiring failure at the terminal strip on the operator board or a dead relay on the output side. It can also be a failed transformer feeding the board low voltage.
  • Your access code stops working on one keypad but works on another. Multiple-entry FAAC setups share a bus. One bad keypad can pull the whole bus down, or the keypad’s internal memory has failed. The fix is replacement, not just reprogramming.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Long Beach, FAAC access control installation typically runs:

  • Single keypad replacement: $320 to $480 installed, including the keypad, weatherproofing, wiring correction, and programming.
  • Standalone receiver or antenna replacement: $280 to $450 installed.
  • Control board repair or replacement: $420 to $780 installed, depending on whether it’s a single board or a board with a separate transformer.
  • Full access control refresh (keypad, receiver, remote programming, board check): $530 to $900 installed.

What drives the price is mostly the part itself and how much wiring damage we find once the housing is open. Coastal neighborhoods in Long Beach, like Naples and the Peninsula, eat through wiring and connectors faster than inland areas like Bixby Knolls. The cost of waterproofing, terminal cleanup, and occasionally repulling a short run of damaged wire is part of the quote.

Every installation includes a written price before any work starts, and that price is the price. No surprise line items at the end. The work is covered by the 365-Day Done Right Promise: if the part or the installation fails within a year, we return and fix it free.

DIY or Call Us?

There are a few things an owner can safely check before calling: confirm the operator has power at the outlet, check that no breaker has tripped, and look for obvious damage, like a keypad face that’s cracked or a wire that’s been pulled loose by a weed trimmer. Those are safe, useful checks.

Beyond that, FAAC access control work deals with low-voltage wiring but live 120-volt circuits inside the same housing. A wrong move on the transformer or capacitor can cause a serious shock. If the operator is beeping or humming but the gate won’t move, do not keep pressing buttons. The board is electrically live. High-tension gate springs and motor capacitors hold charge even with power off, and that’s not a guess-and-check situation.

If you’ve confirmed power and the keypad still doesn’t respond, that’s our job. Call (562) 512-6788, tell us the model and what it’s doing or not doing, and we’ll give you a straight answer and a written quote.
