We stock and install Viking-compatible welded gate hardware and fabrication parts across Long Beach, with most replacements running $220 – $680 installed depending on the part and your gate’s steel condition. If your Viking gate has a cracked hinge weld, a snapped post bracket, or a bent frame section, we can usually get it measured, fabricated, and welded same-day or next-day. You’ll typically find the failure when the gate starts dragging, rattling harder than usual, or refusing to close flush against the stop.
Most Long Beach Viking owners discover the problem at the worst possible moment: the gate half-open at 7 a.m., the hinge weld fractured from years of salt air and daily cycles. What looks like a simple “weld broke” is usually the predictable end of a steel part that’s been flexing for a decade. We see it most often on heavier slide gates and on swing gates where the original weld was undersized for the leaf weight.
Which Viking Models This Applies To
Viking’s residential and light-commercial gate lines – the most common in Long Beach being the Viking F-1, G-5, and R-6 series swing and slide operators – share a similar chassis design but use different hinge plate thicknesses and post bracket spacing depending on the gate leaf weight. If your gate is a Viking swing model, the hinge weld points are cast or plate steel; slide models fail more often at the roller track mounts and the end-stop brackets.
Here’s the compatibility gotcha we see weekly: the hinge plate bolt pattern on a Viking F-1 is not the same as the G-5, even though the plates look nearly identical side by side. If someone welds on the wrong plate, the gate sits 3/8″ off its original swing path and the operator strains against the misalignment. Before we weld anything, we measure the leaf, the pivot offset, and the plate thickness, then match to the original Viking spec. We carry OEM Viking plates when the timeline allows, and we’re honest about when a quality aftermarket equivalent – same steel grade, same bolt pattern, same weld prep – makes better sense for a 15-year-old gate where the original part is backordered.
Warden Gate Repair Long Beach is an independent service provider. We’re not affiliated with Viking, but we’ve been working on their equipment long enough to know which parts hold up in coastal air and which ones don’t.

Signs Your Viking Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
- Gate sags toward the latch side and scrapes the ground or the track. This is almost always a failing hinge weld or an elongated hinge pin hole. The steel has stretched or cracked at the pivot, and the gate’s weight is now levering against a weakened point. In Long Beach, salt air accelerates the rust that hides behind the hinge plate until the weld separates.
- You hear a sharp creak or pop when the gate starts moving. That’s the sound of a cracked weld flexing open and snapping shut under load. It’s the most reliable early warning you’ll get. The weld hasn’t fully separated yet, but the crack is growing with every cycle.
- The gate hits the end-stop or post harder than it used to. When a fabrication point fails, the operator’s limit settings no longer match the gate’s actual travel. The gate travels a little farther or stops a little short, and the impact force concentrates on whatever bracket is still intact.
- Visible rust trails or orange staining running down from any welded joint. That staining means water has gotten inside the joint and is corroding the steel from within. By the time you see it, the weld has lost a meaningful share of its cross-section. Gates within a mile of the Long Beach coast get this at roughly double the rate of inland properties.
- The gate shudders or vibrates when it reverses direction. A broken weld at a mid-rail or diagonal brace lets the gate rack slightly under direction changes. The operator feels the resistance spike, and the vibration travels through the entire leaf. If you can feel it through the post, the weld is already gone.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included
In Long Beach, you’re looking at these installed ranges for Viking gate welding and fabrication work:
- Hinge weld repair or replacement (per hinge): $220 – $340
- Post bracket fabrication and weld-in: $180 – $290
- Cracked frame section repair (2 – 4 ft): $260 – $480
- End-stop or roller track mount rebuild: $200 – $370
- Full hinge set replacement with plates, both leaves: $420 – $680
The range depends on steel thickness, how much of the surrounding frame needs reinforcement, and whether the gate has to come off its hinges for the work. You get a written price before any work starts – always. No surprise line items at the end. The written price includes the part, the labor, the welding consumables, and a 365-Day Done Right Promise: if our weld or fabrication fails within a year, the return visit is free.
DIY or Call Us?
If you’re comfortable with a wire brush and a flashlight, you can inspect the weld points yourself. Look for hairline cracks at the toe of each weld, rust trails, and any gap where two steel surfaces meet. You can also check whether the hinge bolts have loosened – that’s a bolt fix, not a weld fix, and it’s safe to tighten to spec.
What you shouldn’t do is grind out and re-weld gate steel yourself without knowing the alloy and the original weld procedure. Gate frames are under constant cyclic load, and a weld that looks fine on the surface can fail catastrophically if the penetration is wrong or the steel was overheated. We’ve had to cut out more than one DIY repair where the weld looked better than it performed. If the gate weighs more than you can deadlift, the hinge welds are carrying serious force – that’s when a wrong weld turns into a dropped gate.
Call (562) 512-6788 and tell us exactly what the gate is doing – or not doing – and we’ll tell you exactly what it needs. Cole Rafferty still writes every quote by hand before he types it up, which is why the number on the quote matches the number on the invoice.
FAQs
A properly executed weld on a Viking gate in Long Beach typically lasts 12 – 20 years, though coastal properties within a mile of the water should expect the lower end of that range unless the steel is regularly cleaned and sealed. The original Viking welds on many Long Beach gates are now 15-plus years old, which is exactly why we’re seeing a wave of failures concentrated in the same neighborhoods near Bixby Knolls and the coastal corridors. Call (562) 512-6788 if you want us to assess the welds on your Viking gate before they fail.
It depends on the weld and the surrounding steel. If the crack is clean and the hinge plate has not elongated at the pin hole, we can grind out the failed weld and re-weld it, often in under an hour per hinge. If the plate itself has stretched or the frame steel around the weld has thinned from rust, replacement is the honest call – a repaired weld on compromised steel buys you months, not years. We’ll show you the difference in person before you spend a dollar.
Most single-hinge weld repairs are done in 60 – 90 minutes once the gate is secured. A full hinge set replacement with fabricated plates takes two to three hours, including grinding, fitting, welding, and paint touch-up. If we need to order a specific Viking OEM plate, we’ll tell you the exact timeline before we schedule the work – and we stock the most common Viking hinge plates and bracket blanks on our truck so most Long Beach jobs get fixed the same day.
We stock the most common Viking hinge plates, bracket blanks, and weld-in end-stop hardware on our service vehicles, and we maintain deeper inventory for the F-1, G-5, and R-6 series at our Long Beach shop. We also carry compatible parts for LiftMaster, Mighty Mule, and Ghost Controls operators that frequently pair with Viking gates. If the part you need isn’t on the truck, we’ll source it and have it in hand before we schedule the repair – you won’t be waiting on a gate that’s stuck open.
